Dino Melaye Wins Six-Year Legal Battle against FG, IGP

The Federal Government of Nigeria has acquitted a former Senator and former member of the house of representatives, Dino Melaye in the twelfth and final case against him.

Dino Melaye had faced the legal battle since six years.

Dino Stated that Justice Sylvanus Oriji gave the ruling at the FCT High Court in Maitama, clearing Melaye of two charges of supplying false information concerning a claimed assassination attempt on his life in 2017.

The judicial process began in February 2018, when Melaye was accused of unjustly linking Edward Onoja, then-chief of Staff of Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, in the assassination plan.

Melaye who represented Kogi West Senatorial district took to social networking platform X on Monday to celebrate the ruling, thanking his legal team and emphasising his unwavering confidence in divine justice.

“I take life as it comes, but in all the vicissitudes of life, I trust in God only. He is always with the just,” he stated.

In his post, he also noted, “Justice served after six years. Justice delayed is never justice denied. God alone be praised. SEN. DINO MELAYE 12 – FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND IGP 0. 12 CASES ALL WON BY GOD.

“Justice served after six years. Justice delayed is never justice denied. God alone be praised.

The initial case involving the claimed assassination attempt was delayed, including the untimely death of Justice Aromeh Benson Akogu, the judge supervising the matter, during a cross-over service on December 31, 2017.

On January 31, 2018, the Attorney General's Office publicly prosecuted Melaye, alleging that his charges were false, following a probe into an alleged assassination attempt in his hometown of Ayetoro-Gbede, Kogi State.

In March 1,2018, former federal lawmaker had  pleaded not guilty.

Also in July 2018, Melaye accused the Kogi State police command of attempting to assassinate him.

He however, made the statement in response to reports that his security detail had shot at police officers conducting'stop and search' operations in Mopa.

In March 2019, Melaye again alleged a conspiracy against his life by the Kogi State government, which the State authorities denied.

Dino Melaye was the spokesman of the 2023 presidential candidate of the People Democratic Party.
