Lagos Govt Lists Alternative Routes From Eko Bridge

The Lagos State Government has publicized a traffic diversion for emergency repairs of the Eko Bridge by the Federal Ministry of Works.

The government announced in a statement by the State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, on Friday said the diversion is to commence Monday, September 16, 2024, and last for 8 weeks.

The statement reads, “The repairs will be carried out in four phases, during which the bridge will be intermittently fully or partially closed, depending on the work schedule,” he said.

“Motorists heading to the island from Funsho Williams Avenue can make use of the service lane at Alaka to connect Costain and access Eko Bridge to continue their journeys.

“Alternatively, Motorists heading to the island can access Costain to connect Eko Bridge to Apongbon for their destinations. Motorists can also connect Apongbon inwards Eko Bridge to link Costain to access Funsho Williams Avenue.

“Motorists can also make use of Costain inwards Alaka/Funsho Williams Avenue or alternately go through Apapa Road from Costain and link Oyingbo to access Adekunle to link Third Mainland Bridge for their desired destinations.

“In the same vein Motorists heading to Surulere are advised to use Costain to link Breweries inwards Abebe Village to connect Eric Moore/Bode Thomas to get to their destinations,” the statement read.

He assured the public that Lagos State Traffic Management Authority officers will be deployed to the rehabilitation areas and along alternative routes to help minimise travel delays and inconvenience.

Early August, the state government announced plan to divert traffic at the Ikeja Along Bus Stop, between Ile Zik and Conoil Filling Station on the Oshodi-bound lane of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

According to the announcement, the diversion would be for two days, from Saturday, August 17, 2024, to Sunday, August 18, 2024, between 12 midnight and 4 am daily.

The diversion was meant to allow workers to safely demolish the old pedestrian bridge in the area.

In May, commuters and motorists also witnessed traffic diversion on the Gbagada-Oworonshoki Expressway, which started early Saturday and is expected to last until Sunday evening. The government gave “exigent situation,” without specifying the exact nature.
