In a bid to curb kidnapping and ransom payments, the Delta State Police Command has cautioned Point of Sale (POS) operators against handling transactions above N500,000.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, warned that such dealings could inadvertently involve operators in criminal activities. He cited a recent case where a POS operator unknowingly processed a N4 million ransom payment, earning just N40,000.
"Be wise, don't facilitate suspicious transactions," Edafe advised. "You may spend time in prison before your lawyer can get you out."
The warning follows a tragic incident where a Divisional Police Officer and senior officers were killed during a kidnap rescue operation.
Will this warning be enough to keep POS operators out of kidnappers' crosshairs?
