 Lawmaker Blasts Okorocha For Neglecting Ideato Roads in 8 Yrs

A member of the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Okey Udeze has blasted a former Governor of the State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha for neglecting roads in Ideato Federal Constituency during his eight year rule of the state.

Hon Udeze, who represents Ideato North Constituency at the House regretted that throughout the eight years Owelle Okorocha governed the state, he could not tar the Orlu-Mgbee-Akokwa-Uga Road or any other road in the area

Speaking while arguing a motion at plenary, on Friday Hon Udeze however expressed happiness that what their son, Owelle Rochas Okorocha could not do, their son-in-law Governor Hope Uzodimma is doing it for the Ideato Nation, which comprises Ideato North and Ideato South local Government Areas.

Hon Udeze said, "Ideato Nation had been cut off from the rest of the state, making it difficult for the indigenes who live in other towns to travel back home, as motorists make their way through the bushes and people's farmlands to avoid the collapsed bridge at Mgbee, and this has tripled the transport fare from Orlu to Ideato North and Ideato South local government areas, thereby increasing the sufferings of the people of Ideato nation".

"The Governor has shown concern. He has taken it upon himself to show us love and affection. We are very grateful. Ideato Nation will forever remain indebted and grateful to Governor Hope Uzodimma for remembering the Orlu-Mgbee-Akokwa-Uga Express Road.

"We had a governor for eight years, unfortunately, this road was not touched. And this deprived us access to good things of life.

"But today, Governor Uzodimma, who is our son-in-law, is doing it. The construction of this major road will further attract development to our area. On completion of the reconstruction of the road, my people who are predominantly farmers will easily transport their farm produce to other parts of the state without stress".

Hon Udeze thereafter urged his colleagues to join him in commending Governor Uzodimma by supporting the motion.

The motion was seconded by Hon Sam Osuji (siala Mbano).

Six lawmakers namely James Esile (Onuimo); Ikpamezie (Mbaitoli); Ikenna Ihezuo (Orlu); Johnleoba Iheoha (Ikeduru); Uzoma Francis Osuoha (Ohaji/Egbema) and Clinton Amadi (Owerri Municipal) supported the motion.

In their submissions, they commended Hon Udeze, while describing Governor Uzodimma as God sent.

They agreed that the Orlu-Mgbee-Akokwa-Uga express road, when completed, would save cost, reduce social unrest and crime, and would make it much easier, faster and cheaper for farm produce to be transported from Ideato North and Ideato South to other parts of the state.

They expressed confidence that with the ongoing reconstruction of Orlu-Mgbee-Akokwa-Uga express road, abandoned and dilapidated roads in Onuimo, Mbaitoli, Orlu, Ikeduru, Ohaji/Egbema and New Owerri would also be attended to.

Satisfied with contributions from members, the Speaker, Hon Chike Olemgbe, put it to vote and it was unanimously adopted.

He thereafter directed the Clerk, Barr Chinelo Emeghara to communicate the resolution of the House to the governor.;
