My Wife Was Once Embarrassed By My Car- Timi Dakolo

Timi Dakolo, a renowned Nigerian musician, late yesterday in a TV interview, opened up about the early days of his relationship with his wife, Busola, shedding light on how their love story began and the challenges they faced along the way. The singer, famous for his hit song "Iyawo Mi," shared a personal recollection of how he first met Busola, his persistence in pursuing her, and some humorous moments during their early courtship.

According to Timi, he first encountered Busola at church, and despite feeling an immediate attraction, she wasn’t receptive to his romantic advances.

He recalled how she initially rejected his invitation to accompany him to a ball, though she did give him her phone number.

However, she wasn’t answering his calls, which left Timi puzzled and a bit discouraged. Unwilling to give up, he continued to pursue her by visiting her neighborhood in the hopes of running into her again.

Their eventual conversation led to a revelation from Busola, she claimed her phone had been stolen, which is why she hadn’t been responding to his calls. Touched by her situation, Timi empathized and they began to build a friendship.

As their bond grew, Timi found himself developing deeper feelings for her, but Busola seemed intent on keeping things platonic. Undeterred, Timi persisted, refusing to be friend-zoned.

As the relationship progressed, Timi shared a light-hearted but telling story about how Busola used to feel embarrassed whenever he picked her up in his car, a branded Picanto that he had won as part of his prize for winning the inaugural season of ‘Idols West Africa’ in 2007.

While this small car might not have been the flashy ride many might expect of a rising star, it became a source of both humor and mild discomfort for Busola, who struggled with the idea of being seen in it.

Timi, however, remained unfazed. He reassured her, telling her that he would surprise her in due time, and made it clear that he would not be disheartened by her initial reservations. His determination to win her heart eventually paid off. Their relationship blossomed into a marriage in 2012, and they are now proud parents of three children, continuing to share their journey together.
