As part of its corporate social responsibility and to ensure a cordial working relationship with its host, the Naval Base Oguta(NBOG), Imo State on Thursday, November 14, 2024 held a medical outreach at Orsu Obodo Community in Oguta Local Government Area of the state.
The outreach which held at St. Michael 's Secondary School Orsu Obodo saw the Navy distributing free drugs, medical kits and insecticide treated mosquito nets to indigenes of the community. QA
The NBOG also distributed writing materials such as exercise books, pencils, rulers and biros to students of St. Michaels Secondary School.
Speaking at the outreach, the Commander of the NBOG, Commodore Mohammed Basheer Salisu said the outreach was in line with the Navy corporate social responsibility and to promote cordial working relationship with the host community.
Commodore Salisu, who was represented by the Executive Officer of NBOG, Ukeme Anthony said the event was a way of the Naval Base giving back to the society.
He commended the cordial relationship which has existed between the Naval Base and Orsu Obodo Community in the last three years the Base had existed in the area.
Commodore Salisu also lauded the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla for approving the outreach.
In his welcome address, the Traditional Prime Minister TPM of Orsu Obodo Community, Ajie Ogbuagu thanked the NBOG for attending to the medical needs of the people of the community.
He described the day as a red letter day in the community and commended the cordial relationship existing between the community and Naval Base since its establishment three years ago.
Similarly, the Principal of St Michael's Secondary School, Orsu Obodo, Mr. Stephen Opara was effusive in his thanks to the authorities of the Navy for undertaking the medical outreach in the community.
Mr Opara prayed the medical outreach to become a regular event.
Delivering a health talk entitled "Care of the body", Omolaiye B. C urged the people to engage in regular physical exercises and eat healthy foods as well as have enough sleep and rest.
She submitted that regular exercises eliminate cardiovascular diseases and stop obesity.
According to her, the natives should also drink enough water instead of alcohol or tobacco to detoxify their bodies, shave their public areas, bath regularly, wash and dry their clothes as well as apply deodorant.
The medical team of the NBOG carried out free blood pressure checks, sugar check and consultation.
It also distributed medicines free of cost to the indigenes of the community.
