Diri Urges Corps Members To Be Part of Bayelsa’s Growth

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, on Tuesday, called on corps members posted to the state to actively contribute to its transformation into a prime destination for work, leisure, and tourism.

The Governor who Spoke through his Executive Assistant on NYSC Matters, Dr. Wisdom Poyeri, at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Batch C, Stream 2 orientation in Boro Town, urged them to approach their assignments with dedication and accountability.

Governor Diri buttressed on the vast opportunities Bayelsa offers for talented and innovative individuals, urging corps members to see their service year as a platform for growth.

"The state is on an exciting journey, expanding its potential in various sectors. We invite you to be part of this by serving with diligence and responsibility," he stated.

He assured them of the government’s commitment to their safety and well-being, emphasizing that Bayelsans are warm and hospitable.

"We will continue implementing measures to ensure you can carry out your duties without hindrance. The future belongs to those who believe in their dreams—go and make your mark," he added.

The governor also encouraged corps members to explore Bayelsa’s culture and cuisine while making the most of their time in the state. He officially declared the orientation program closed, wishing them a successful and fulfilling service year.

Earlier, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Okpalifo Obiageli Charity, commended the corps members and camp officials for their discipline and teamwork, which contributed to a smooth orientation program. She urged them to promptly report to their places of primary assignment and provide meaningful service to their host communities.

She warned against risky behaviors such as night travel, unsafe river crossings without life jackets, and the misuse of social media, emphasizing that their safety is paramount. She also reminded them that their Community Development Service (CDS) is as important as their primary assignments and encouraged them to initiate projects that would leave lasting impacts.

She encouraged them to continue honing the skills they acquired through the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program, as entrepreneurship is key to securing their future. She also called on corps employers and traditional rulers to ensure that corps lodges are habitable and safe.
