NCDMB Launches 8th Annual National Undergraduate Essay Competition

Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), has announced the official commencement of the 2024 NCDMB Annual National Undergraduate Essay Competition, marking its eighth edition.


This was disclosed by the Project Consultant and CEO of Mahogany 21 Century Concepts Limited, Mr. Eyinimi Omorozi, on Friday in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.


According to Omorozi, numerous students from various higher institutions across the country have registered to participate, with essay submissions open until October 14, 2024.


He noted that the prestigious competition organized by the NCDMB, aims to promote academic excellence among undergraduates while fostering awareness of local content initiatives in Nigeria's oil and gas sector. 


"The 2024 essay topic "Nigerian Content and Opportunities in African Local Content Advancement", is specifically targeting students in their first or second year at Nigerian universities and polytechnics.


"Participants can win substantial cash prizes: N1,000,000 for first place, N700,000 for second, and N500,000 for third. Additionally, all top ten finalists will receive laptops. 


"Essays must be original works not exceeding 1,500 words and submitted via the competitions' website. The final assessment for shortlisted entrants will occur by October 28, with an awards ceremony scheduled for November", he said. 


Omorozi emphasized the competition's role in developing local capacities and competencies among youths to prepare them for effective participation in the oil and gas industry.


"By engaging students in this initiative, the NCDMB aims to cultivate a generation capable of driving Nigeria's content development forward.".


The NCDMB Annual National Undergraduate Oil & Gas Essay Competition is an initiative of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), designed to promote the Nigerian Content (NC) initiative and create the awareness for Nigerians to build local capacity to participate effectively in Nigerian’s Oil and Gas industry.


Applicants must be currently enrolled in a higher institution and must be a 100-200 level students in public and private Nigerian Universities and Polytechnics.They are also required to submit either a letter of admission or a signed letter of attestation from their Head of Department (HOD).


The requirements further said all essays must be original and specifically written for the competition.

In addition, Co-authorship is not permitted and Manuscripts must not exceed 1,500 words.


Shortlisted entrants will be contacted for a final round of interactive assessment on or before 28th October 2024.
