The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has extended its deepest condolences to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, following the death of his wife, Patience Umo. Leading the delegation was Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the Managing Director and CEO of the Commission. He was accompanied by Sir Victor Antai, Executive Director of Projects, as well as other directors and representatives from the NDDC board.
The visit, which took place at the governor’s residence in Ikot Ekpene Udo, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, was marked by solemnity and solidarity. Dr. Ogbuku expressed the Commission's heartfelt sorrow, describing the loss of Mrs. Patience Umo as a tragedy that transcends Akwa Ibom State. “Her passing is not just a loss to her family or this state; it is a loss to the entire Niger Delta region,” he remarked, highlighting her positive impact on both her immediate community and the state at large.
Governor Umo Eno, visibly touched by the personal nature of the visit, expressed gratitude for the delegation's show of solidarity. He described the NDDC’s outreach as a reflection of their shared vision for regional unity and progress. In his remarks, he called for a renewed commitment to collaboration between Akwa Ibom State and the Commission, stressing the importance of building partnerships to achieve sustainable development in the Niger Delta.
“This visit signifies more than just condolence; it is a reminder of the bond we share as a region and the need to work together to uplift our people,” Governor Eno stated. He further acknowledged the late Patience Umo’s contributions to society, noting her passion for humanitarian efforts and her unwavering support for her husband’s leadership.
The late Patience Umo was widely respected for her selfless service to the community and her role as a supportive First Lady during her husband’s tenure. Her passing has left a profound void, not only within her family but also among the countless lives she touched in her lifetime.
The NDDC delegation’s visit underscored the Commission’s broader commitment to supporting not only the infrastructural and economic needs of the Niger Delta but also the social and emotional well-being of its people. Dr. Ogbuku urged Governor Eno and his family to find strength in the prayers and goodwill of the region, reassuring them of the collective support of the Niger Delta community during this difficult time.
