A police inspector whose identity is yet to be identified has been reportedly Killed by gunmen attack at quarry workers in Edo State.
It was discovered that one other police officer, who is an elderly man, and an expatriate working with the company sustained various degrees of injuries during the attack at Ihievbe-Ogben in Owan East Local Government Area of the state.
When interviewed, a resident told a local media outlet today, Sunday the 20th of October, that the incident happened on Thursday when the gunmen ambushed and attacked the workers With weapons and shot them while they were returning to their base camp after their day’s work activities.
He further said that the police officer, who is an an Inspector, died in the attack, while one other officer and an expatriate sustained good amount of injuries on their body.
The resident also stated that the injured expatriate and the police officer are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in the state.
In his words during the interview, he said: "I got information that the police officer, an Inspector was killed in the attack, and one other officer and an expatriate were also injured. They are receiving treatment in a hospital.”
The Edo State Police command spokesperson, Moses Yamu, when contacted by the media, confirmed the incident.
He mentioned that one police officer was killed, while another police officer and one expatriate sustained injuries in the attack.
“The attack took place. One of our men was killed while another was injured alongside an expatriate.’
He further revealed that more investigations, particularly collaboration with the military is currently ongoing in other to apprehend the culprits in other for them to face the full wrath of the law.
“Investigation into the incident is ongoing alongside efforts in collaboration with the military to apprehend the suspects is in progress,” he stated.
Nigeria’s security has deteriorated in recent times with frequent attacks by armed persons.
These attacks often target security agencies, government officials and influencial facilities.
Some weeks ago gunmen also killed four police operatives in Owerri, the state capital.
Apart from the operatives, a woman – a Point on Sale machine operator – was also killed in the attack.
