NDSF: Committee Members Charged to be Serious, Committed


Members of the Main, and Local Organizing Committees of the maiden edition of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Niger Delta Sports Festival have been charged to take their job serious.


Chairman of the Main Organizing Committee, Mr Boma Iyaye, who doubles as the Executive Director of Finance and Administration, NDDC, gave the charge on Friday, February 21, 2025 while inaugurating members of the main and local organizing Committees at the NDDC Headquarters in Port Harcourt.


He asked members of the committees to see their nominations as a call to serve their region, pointing out that they should show commitment and seriousness in the duty.


While noting that the festival was the first of its kind in the country, Iyaye, who is a former Commissioner of Sports Development in Rivers State, said the talent hunt-oriented festival must not fail to live up to its expectation.


The chairman of the Main Organizing Committee said, "You should see your nominations as opportunity to serve your region, the Niger Delta region. You must be committed and serious in the discharge of your duties. The festival is the first of its kind in the country and must therefore not fail to live up to its expectations of discovering sports talents from the Niger Delta region".

‎Members Of The Central/Main Organizing Committee inaugurated include Alabo Boma Iyaye - Chairman; Itiako Ikpokpo, Co-Chairman while Davies Okerevu, Barr. Salami Okogie, Barr. Victor Arenyeka, Mrs. Seladi Wakama and Allwell Egwurugu are members.


Other members of the Main/Local Organizing Committee are Onome Obruthe, Ono Akpe, Eniofiok Udo-Obong, Ochuko Igbigbisie, Fred Edoreh, Mr. Paul Bassey and Lady Rose Bassey.

‎Also inaugurated as Chairmen of Sub-Committees of the Local Organizing Committee are; Mr. Enefiok Udo-Ubong - Technical; Engr. Evong Moduck Evong - Accommodation; Mr. Israel Ummerri - Transportation; Dr. George Uzonwanne - Medical Services; Mr. Edger Okpozo - Security; Mr. Kufere Etukudo - Facilities/Equipment and Chinyere Clara Braide, who will be in charge of Protocol Services.


Other Sub-committee chairman include Mrs. Inyang Etim Udoh - Catering Services; Mr. Richard Mofe Damijo - Cultural Expo; Mr. Iwuala Harrison will oversee Media/Publicity; Mr. Godwin Enakhena will be in charge of Scouting/Mentorship Programme while Dr. Eyibrayila Ladi Awofeso will coordinate Secretariat Services.

‎The nine Commissioners of Sports from the nine mandate states of the Niger Delta region, which include Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Imo, Ondo and Rivers states were equally inaugurated as members of the Main Organizing Committee to oversee their various States Liaisons of the festival.

‎The festival, which is part of the agency's programmes set aside for the celebration of the 25 years of the existence of the commission, is billed to run from April 1 to 9, 2025. Akwa Ibom is billed to host the first edition of the festival which will see athletes vie for laurels in 15 different sports.

‎The Niger Delta Sports Festival, which is being organized by the interventionist agency in partnership with Dunamis Icon Limited is aimed at harnessing talents for human capital development in the Niger Delta beyond oil.










‎Performing The ceremony at the NDDC Headquarters on Friday, the Executive Director, Finance And Administration At The NDDC, A Former Commissioner of Sports In Rivers State and Chairman of the Main Organizing Committee of the Festival, Alabo Boma Iyaye enjoined members of the various committees to see their nominations as opportunity to serve their region, while appealing to them to show commitments and seriousness in their charges.

‎Iyaye noted that the festival which is the first of its kind in the country must not fail to leave up to its expectations which is, the discovery of talents in all sporting segments from the Niger Delta region.

‎The festival is billed to run from 1st to 9th of April, 2025 at Uyo, Akwa Ibom State with that state as the host of the first edition. Over 15 different sports from both the individual, double and team games will be featured in the festival.

‎The NDDC which is the main sponsor of this festival with almost 95% of the funding coming from it, says it is part of its programmes set aside for the celebration of the 25 years of the existence of the commission.
