NYCN Tasks FG to Address Economic Challenges in Nigeria

The National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN has called on the Federal and state governments to take urgent steps to address the economic hardship faced by Nigerians.

The President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo stated this at the end of the third executive management meeting of the NYCN in Port Harcourt.

The call is coming following threats by the organizers of the #End Bad Governance protest to embark on another round of protest from October 1st across the country tagged “fearless protest”

Sukubo Sara-Igbe said that urgent implementations of initiatives that will curb hardship in Nigeria would enable the organizers of the #EndBad Governance protest to suspend the protest.

He said that another round of #EndBad Governance protests could lead to a serious breakdown of law and order.

The President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria Sukubo Sara-Igbe further said that youth unemployment is on the rise in the country and tasked the government at all levels to act fast before it becomes too late.

He particularly appealed to State Governors to assist the President in the formulation of policies that will improve the living conditions of residents in their various states.

He also commended Governor Siminialayi Fubara for providing a conducive environment for youth leaders across the country to converge and have a successful meeting in Port Harcourt.

On his part, State Chairman of NYCN, Oyo State Chapter, Abdulsallam Abdulkadri Olusegun, who also doubles as the chairman of the chairmen's forum tasked corporate firms to channel their corporate social responsibilities to youth development, to address the high unemployment rate in the country.

He said that Nigeria is sitting on a key of gunpowder with an army of unemployed youths roaming the streets of the country.

He also appealed to well-meaning individuals to assist the government in taking youths off the streets by providing skills and jobs to the teeming youths in the nation.

He further tasked youths in the country to shun actions that could lead to break down of law and order in the country

Our correspondent reports that the event had in attendance youth leaders across the 36 states of the country and some federal government representatives.
