Obi Would Have Improved Nigeria's Economy -Abaribe

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe believes Nigeria would be in a better state if Peter Obi had won the 2023 presidential election, stressing that his leadership style is more inclusive and focused on fairness, which would have brought significant progress to the country.

Abaribe criticized President Bola Tinubu's administration for nepotism, stating that Obi would not have exhibited such favoritism, citing he appointment of four ministers from Ogun State as an example of such tendencies.

The senator also emphasized the need for the Southeast region to focus on self-development rather than relying on federal leadership for fairness. He noted that no Nigerian president, except for Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, has treated the Southeast equitably.

“If Peter Obi had won, Nigeria would likely be in a better place than it is now,” Abaribe stated, adding that Obi’s leadership style would have prioritized fairness and care for all citizens, something he felt was lacking in the current administration.

He noted that nepotism, which he believes is encouraged under Tinubu’s administration, would not have existed under Obi’s leadership.

Abaribe emphasized that Obi’s presidency would have been more inclusive for all citizens, unlike the favoritism he perceives in the current government.

The Senator also criticized Tinubu’s administration for its alleged nepotism, pointing to the appointment of four ministers from Ogun State while other states have only one.

He condemned this imbalance, calling it a form of favoritism that undermines fairness in the distribution of government positions.

Abaribe stressed the importance of equitable representation across Nigeria, arguing that such disparities hinder national unity and should be addressed to ensure fairer governance.

He further argued that while former President Buhari also engaged in nepotism, it worsened under President Tinubu. He highlighted the imbalanced appointments made during Buhari’s tenure, expressing concern that the situation has worsened under the current administration. He emphasized the need for more equitable representation in government positions to ensure fairness across all regions.

Abaribe expressed disappointment that, except for Obasanjo and Jonathan, no president has truly been fair to the people, adding that Nigerians can no longer wait for a leader who will prioritize justice and fairness.

He urged for a change in leadership to effectively address the country’s persistent challenges. Emphasizing the need for fresh direction, he argued that new leadership could bring the necessary reforms and solutions to tackle the ongoing issues. According to him, a shift in governance is crucial for overcoming the current difficulties and ensuring a better future.

Abaribe also stated that the South-East region is the most heavily policed area in the world. He expressed concern over the excessive security presence in the region, highlighting the negative impact on the daily lives of residents. He called for a reassessment of security strategies to ensure fairness and protect the rights of the people.

Abaribe also noted that instead of waiting for fairness from the federal government, the people of the South-East should take charge of their own development.

He urged for collective efforts to revitalize the region, focusing on creating a more prosperous and united South-East. By working together, he emphasized the importance of building a stronger, more sustainable future, where regional development is prioritized, and the people are empowered to take charge of their own progress and well-being.

Abaribe welcomed the arrest of Simon Ekpa, the self-proclaimed Prime Minister of Biafra in exile, viewing it as a positive move towards tackling separatist movements and preserving national unity. He expressed support for the action, emphasizing the importance of holding individuals accountable for their involvement in activities that threaten the country’s cohesion and stability.

He stressed that Ekpa is a content creator and should not be taken too seriously, as his influence stems largely from his online presence, not from any legitimate political or leadership role.

Abaribe urged the public to critically evaluate Ekpa’s statements, cautioning against giving undue importance to his views.

Abaribe revealed that no formal request was presented to the National Assembly for approval of the presidential jet purchase. He emphasized that such an important expenditure should have undergone proper legislative scrutiny, raising concerns about the lack of transparency and accountability in the handling of public funds for such purchases.
