President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will address the nation on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at 7 am, as Nigeria celebrates its 64th Independence Anniversary. This special address is part of the government's efforts to commemorate the country's independence.
This was made known to the nation by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, in a statement titled
‘October 1st 2024 Independence Day: President Tinubu addresses the nation.’
According to Onanuga, all television, radio stations, and electronic media outlets are encouraged to connect to the Nigerian Television Authority and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria for the broadcast.
“Television, radio stations, and other electronic media outlets are encouraged to connect to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria for the broadcast,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, Niger Delta Connect had earlier reported that the Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Tuesday, October 1, 2024, a public holiday to commemorate the nation’s 64th Independence Day.
Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo,The Minister of Interior, made the announcement on Saturday 28 September 2024 on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani.
The minister congratulated Nigerians at home and abroad on the occasion and praised the patient and hardworking Nigerian men and women, while stating that their sacrifices would not be in vain.
Tunji-Ojo also emphasised the need for Nigerians to reflect on the “labour of our heroes past and be inspired for the tasks ahead, realizing that a Nigeria of our dream can only be built when we unite.”
While wishing Nigerians a Happy Independence Day anniversary, Tunji-Ojo urged the citizens to continue to be steadfast in nation-building.
This advice is coming amid speculations of a Nationwide protest that is planned to hold on Tuesday as a continuation of August 1-10 demonstration against rising economic hardship in the country.
Protesters have planned to gather at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is expected to be a major flashpoint, with protesters planning to storm Eagle Square, the same venue as the official Independence Day parade. In Lagos, demonstrators are poised to gather at Ikeja Under Bridge, with both protests slated to kick off early in the morning.
