FG Declares Tuesday Public Holiday to Celebrate Independence Day

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Tuesday, October 1, 2024, a public holiday to commemorate the nation’s 64th Independence Day.


Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo,The Minister of Interior, made the announcement on Saturday 28 September 2024 on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani.


The minister congratulated Nigerians at home and abroad on the occasion and praised the patient and hardworking Nigerian men and women, while stating that their sacrifices would not be in vain.


Tunji-Ojo also emphasised the need for Nigerians to reflect on the “labour of our heroes past and be inspired for the tasks ahead, realizing that a Nigeria of our dream can only be built when we unite.”

While wishing Nigerians a Happy Independence Day anniversary, Tunji-Ojo urged the citizens to continue to be steadfast in nation-building.


Meanwhile, There are speculations that while Nigeria will celebrate its independence on Tuesday, some protesters are gearing up to demonstrate against rising economic hardship in the country.


Similarly, As part of the events kicking off the country’s 64th Independence Anniversary, President Bola Tinubu on Friday joined other Muslim faithful for a special Jumat prayer at the National Mosque in Abuja.


Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, disclosed this in a statement and a video shared on X.com


The statement noted that the prayer is part of the activities to mark Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary celebrations.


The statement reads, “As part of the activities of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu joined other Muslim Faithfuls for a Special Jumat Prayer at the National Mosque, Abuja.”
