Opobo to Get University, Boosting Economic Growth - Gov Fubara

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has announced plans to establish a higher education institution in Opobo Town, with the goal of fostering sustainable economic growth in the area. The Governor made this commitment during the inauguration of the newly constructed 7-kilometer Opobo Town Ring Road, which also includes three strategically placed crossing bridges. The event took place on Monday, December 16, 2024, in the Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area.

Governor Fubara highlighted that the establishment of the university would be a cornerstone of the region's long-term development strategy. He emphasized that the educational institution would serve as a catalyst for economic prosperity, providing both academic opportunities for the local population and attracting investments to the area. The presence of a university, he said, would contribute significantly to the community's growth by fostering innovation, research, and the development of human capital.

In addition to the educational plans, Governor Fubara revealed that his administration would embark on further land reclamation projects aimed at supporting future developments. The reclaimed land, he stated, would be utilized for both public and private sector ventures, including commercial and residential buildings, thereby enhancing the region’s infrastructure and overall livability.

Governor Fubara reiterated the importance of implementing a comprehensive development agenda to ensure that Opobo Town and the surrounding areas thrive. By prioritizing infrastructure such as roads and bridges, he noted, the state would not only improve connectivity but also attract more businesses, contributing to a dynamic local economy. The Governor stressed that these improvements would play a key role in uplifting the quality of life for residents, creating a more conducive environment for economic and social development.

The newly inaugurated Opobo Town Ring Road is a major milestone in the area’s infrastructure transformation. This 7-kilometer road, coupled with the three bridges, is expected to ease transportation challenges, facilitate trade, and open up new opportunities for residents and businesses. The Governor emphasized that these developments are designed to support the creation of job opportunities, which will be essential in addressing the needs of the local population and boosting the area's economic prospects.

As part of his vision for the future, Governor Fubara remains committed to ensuring that the growth and development of Opobo Town are sustainable, with a focus on education, infrastructure, and job creation. With these efforts, the Governor believes that the region will not only improve its standard of living but also become a model for economic development across Rivers State.
