Otti Blames Opposition For Insecurity

The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti has accused certain "unpatriotic" politicians, in collaboration with external groups of being behind the violence and criminal activities plaguing the state since May.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, the Governor claimed the opposition is responsible for the violence, while announcing a new counter-offensive to tackle the situation.

Otti stated that while the state government is known for its commitment to peace, it will not succumb to blackmail, intimidation, or any politics of violence.

He also called on residents to stay alert and report any illegal activities to help combat insecurity in the state.

"This strategy kicked in as they realised that their initial efforts at churning out lies and fabrications against the government in pretentious posturing as “opposition” has failed to gain currency amongst Abia people who have thoroughly ignored them and their antics, since they know the truth"

"While the Abia State government is one that is known and acknowledged locally, nationally and internationally as a peace-loving government, devoid of involvement in politics of violence, division and destruction, it must be noted that we will not yield to blackmail or intimidation.

"It needs to be understood that the government will not sit idly by and watch any person or group of persons unleash violence on innocent and peace-loving citizens of the state", the statement highlighted.

The Governor affirmed that his administration is fully committed and capable of protecting the lives and property of all Abia residents, and will carry out this important duty without delay or obstruction.

"A new Counter-Offensive has just been launched by the government to decimate every structure of terror erected or being erected in any Abia territory by criminals, hence citizens are enjoined not to harbour any person or persons they do not know, to avoid falling victims.

"All innocent and peace-loving Abia residents are enjoined to go about their legitimate businesses without fear or panic, as government is determined to ensure their protection at all times.

Kidnapping, armed robbery, ritual killings and other criminal activities and heinous crimes are allien to the culture of our people, therefore, Abians should cooperate with the government and security agencies to get rid of all criminal elements who are desirous of polluting our land with their sacrilegious activities", He added.

Otti cautioned that anyone attempting to politicize the safety and well-being of innocent Abians will face severe consequences, as the government will no longer tolerate such actions, regardless of who is responsible.

Otti urged community and traditional leaders to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement for prompt action. He also called on parents and guardians to closely monitor their children and loved ones to prevent involvement in criminal activities.

He also emphasized that the government will not bow to emotional blackmail or any appeals in cases of confirmed criminal behavior.
