Otti Missing as Labour Party Launches LG Campaign in Abia

Dr. Alex Otti, the Governor of Abia State, and his cabinet were noticeably absent from the Labour Party's campaign launch for the local government election in Aba, which is set to take place on November 2, 2024.

Although Otti affirmed his loyalty to LP, reports suggest that some of his supporters have switched to the Zenith Labour Party, opting to contest the election under its banner.

Hon. Ceekay Igara, LP’s National Vice Chairman for the South East, at the flag-off ceremony, handed flags to the party's 17 chairmanship candidates. He reminded them that their roles stem from the party's support and advised them to remain humble.

Igara highlighted the Labour Party's commitment to an open and inclusive candidate selection process in Abia, asserting that the selected candidates genuinely reflect the will of the people.

He stated, “Labour Party believes in letting the people decide,” explaining that this strategy minimizes the need for extensive campaigning, as it resonates with voters.

He also stressed the importance of transparency and accountability within the party, reminding candidates that they serve as representatives, not as authorities above the LP. “You are accountable to the party,” he warned, urging them to steer clear of forming factions or “cabal-like” structures and to prioritize public service with integrity.

Prince Ndubueze, the state chairman of the LP, supported Igara’s views, calling on Governor Otti to facilitate a free, fair, and transparent electoral process. He praised Otti’s accomplishments in office and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to democratic values, including the principle of “one man, one vote.”
