Otti to Commission Road Projects in Aba, Umuahia

The Abia State government announced that on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, it will officially commission two newly constructed roads in Aba, Obiora Road and Abak Street.


In a press statement dated 1st December, 2024, the Commissioner of Information, Prince Okey Kanu stated that this will enhance infrastructural development agenda aimed at boosting the economy of the State and enhancing both intra- and inter- connectivity.


Kanu announced that the commissioning ceremony for Obiora Road will take place at Obiora Road, near East Street in Aba, at 12:00 noon. The event for Abak Street will follow at 2:00 pm, opposite the Aba North Local Government Area headquarters in Eziama, Aba.


He invited the public to join in the celebration of a significant milestone for the state, highlighting the importance of both road projects in improving infrastructure and transportation within the Aba area.


“In the same vein, Governor Alex Otti, OFR will on Wednesday the 4th of December, flag-off the reconstruction of the Onuimo - Abia Tower of Peace Road and the construction of the Umuopara Ring Road. The two roads are 5.5km and 6.92km respectively.


 “The Flag-off Ceremony for the Onuimo-Abia Tower of Peace Road will be held at the Expressway Junction by Abia Tower at 12:00 noon while the ceremony for the Umuopara Ring Road will be held at the Umunwanwa community square by 2:00pm. Both roads are located in Umuahia South Local Government Area”, he added.


He further stated that the Abia State Government extends a warm invitation to captains of industry, business leaders, religious and traditional rulers, as well as women and youth, to join in the events.


The government encourages their participation in this significant occasion, highlighting the importance of community involvement in the commissioning of the newly constructed roads.


“In both instances, invited guests are requested to be seated before the arrival of the Governor and his entourage”, he said.


Recall that Governor Alex Otti, revealed that the government saved N1.45 billion by rehabilitating Dozie Way in Umuahia, the state capital, at a cost of N750 million through direct labour by the Ministry of Works. Otti made the announcement during the commissioning of the 1.3-kilometer road, explaining that external contractors had initially quoted N2.2 billion for the project.
