PDP Poised to Produce More Governors in 2027 - NWC

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed confidence that the party will increase its number of state governors beyond the current 12 and reclaim power at the federal level in the 2027 elections.

This declaration was made in a statement issued by Daniel Alabrah, Chief Press Secretary to the Bayelsa State Governor, on Monday.

The statement followed a visit by the NWC to Governor Douye Diri at his country home in Sampou, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area.

Speaking during the visit, PDP National Treasurer, Alhaji Ahmed Yayare, attributed the growing discontent across the country to prolonged economic hardships under the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration. He asserted that PDP remains the only viable opposition capable of rescuing Nigeria.

“Nothing stops the PDP from producing the president and vice president in 2027. The cry of hunger and poverty is too loud in the land. The 36 states of Nigeria are yearning for the return of the PDP. The APC cannot even campaign; they will be stoned. Nigeria is in your hands, and we need your support to salvage it,” Yayare stated.

He added that the NWC plans to tour PDP-controlled states to build consensus and mobilize support ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Also, The National Secretary of the party, Ude Okoye, emphasized the NWC’s commitment to repositioning the PDP as a credible alternative to the APC.

He praised Governor Diri for his exemplary leadership and developmental achievements in Bayelsa, noting that such strides are a testament to PDP's capacity to deliver quality governance.

In his response, Governor Diri called for unity among party members and urged governors to work collaboratively to strengthen the party. He stressed the need for internal harmony and consensus-building to resolve disputes without resorting to litigation.

“We must work closely as governors and do what is right. If the PDP dies in our hands, posterity will not forgive us. PDP has made most of us, and we cannot afford to undermine it,” Diri said.

The governor also expressed support for forming a “mega party” with the PDP as a leading force to reclaim the center. He called on his colleagues to fortify the party to save Nigeria from its current challenges.
