The operatives of the Imo State Police Command have foiled an operation being carried out by a suspected kidnapping and organ trafficking syndicate in the state.

They also arrested a 38-year-old suspected organ trafficker, Justine Emmanuel from Amaimo Community in Ikeduru Local Government Area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Henry Okoye disclosed this in a statement on Monday October 14, 2024.

ASP Henry Okoye also disclosed that the police personnel equally rescued a 19-year-old lady(name withheld ) from the grips of the syndicate when they attempted conveying her to their hideout to harvest her organs.

The statement reads; “On October 10, 2024, operatives of the Imo State Police Command dismantled a suspected kidnapping and organ trafficking syndicate in the Douglas area of Imo State.

“During the operation, one suspect, Justine Emmanuel, a 38-year-old male from Amaimo Community in Ikeduru LGA of Imo State, was arrested, and a 19-year-old young lady, whose name is withheld for privacy, was rescued.

“The arrest followed the swift response of vigilant operatives on visibility patrol, who observed the syndicate in a blue and white bus forcefully taking the young girl to an undisclosed location where they intended to kill her and harvest her organs.

“During the chase, the victim managed to jump from the bus and was immediately rescued. The police engaged in a hot pursuit, leading to the abandonment of the vehicle and the arrest of one suspect, while others escaped into the nearby bush.

“The Command is conducting further investigations to identify additional members of the syndicate and assess the full extent of their criminal activities.

“This successful rescue underscores the Imo State Police Command’s commitment to combating violent crime and ensuring community safety.

“The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. Further updates will be provided as the investigation unfolds”.

Recall that the media have been awash with reports of cases of organ harvesters seizing their victims and conveying them to unknown destinations especially in the Okigwe axis of the state.

Some of the victims have been reportedly slaughtered and their parts sold for ritual purposes while some victims miraculously escaped to relate their sordid experiences.
