Police Nab 4 Suspects Over Trafficking Of Children

 

The operatives of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Imo State Police Command have nabbed four suspects in connection with the abduction and trafficking of children.


The operatives also rescued three children from the four suspected abductors and traffickers.


The names of the four suspects were given as Ifeoma Anyanwu, 41, a native of Oloko Ikwuano Local Government Area, Abia State and Chibuzor Lucky, 42 of Umuezeala Umuerim, Ubakala, Umuahia, Abia State.


Others are Charity Kalu, 24, Okono, Ohiafia Local Government Area, Abia State. and Isidore Ozioma, 56 of Umuhu Onicha, Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area, Imo State.


The suspects were paraded in Owerri Imo State capital on Monday, September 30, 2024.


Speaking during the parade, the Police Public Relations Officer PPRO ASP Henry Okoye disclosed that the three children were abducted on July 4, 2024, in Ndinwegbu Umuoma, Onicha, Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State..


ASP Okoye said investigations revealed that the suspects lured the children into their tricycle while they were playing outside and subsequently transported them to a hidden location in Aba, Abia State commercial plexus where they were sold for 1,000,000 Naira. 


He added that a prompt action from the police led to the rescue of the children and the apprehension of the four suspects.


According to him, the four suspects are currently undergoing a thorough investigation at the State CID as efforts continue to locate additional missing children. 


He added that the rescued three children had been safely reunited with their families.


Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police , CP Aboki Danjuma has issued a stern warning to parents, and guardians emphasizing the need for vigilance. 


He urged families to be cautious of strangers and to supervise their children closely at all times.


In a related development, the police command stepped its confidence -building patrols across the state in preparation for the 64th Independence Day anniversary celebration of Nigeria on Tuesday, October 1 holding at Ndubuisi Kanu Square formerly Heroes Square Owerri.


Addressing the press on Friday, the state Commissioner for Information, Strategy and Public Orientation, Hon Declan Emelumba disclosed that the state Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma would address the state during the celebration. Earlier, a jumat prayer service was held on Friday and Church Service held on Sunday as part of activities for the independence day celebration.
