In a move aimed at strengthening the nation's bureaucracy, President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, OON, as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation. The appointment takes effect from August 14, 2024.
Mrs. Walson-Jack, a seasoned administrator from Bayelsa State has served as Federal Permanent Secretary since 2017, with stints in various Ministries. She will succeed the incumbent Head of the Civil Service, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, CFR, who retires on August 13, 2024.
President Tinubu praised the outgoing Head of Service for her dedication and stewardship, while charging the incoming Head of Service to bring innovative ideas, integrity, and a strict adherence to civil service rules and regulations to her new role.
Mrs. Walson-Jack's appointment is seen as a testament to her wealth of experience, having served in the Rivers and Bayelsa State civil services before joining the federal civil service. She is currently the Permanent Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Education.
The President's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, announced the appointment on July 17, 2024, highlighting the administration's commitment to building a robust and efficient civil service.
With this appointment, Mrs. Walson-Jack becomes the new face of the federal civil service, tasked with driving reforms and ensuring the effective implementation of government policies. Her tenure is expected to bring a fresh perspective and renewed energy to the nation's bureaucracy.
