PDP Declares Gov Fubara As Unchallenged Leader In Rivers

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially affirmed Governor Siminalayi Fubara as the undisputed leader of the party in Rivers State. This declaration followed a pivotal consultative meeting held at the Government House in Port Harcourt, where the NWC expressed its full confidence in Fubara’s leadership.

The closed-door session, which saw key party members in attendance, focused on recent developments within the PDP in Rivers. A significant topic of discussion was the recent court ruling that nullified the controversial PDP congresses in the state. This decision had previously led to the emergence of Hon. Chukwuemeka Aaron, sparking internal tension. Following the judgment, Hon. Robinson Nname Ewor was appointed as the acting chairman of the party, providing a fresh direction for party leadership in the state.

PDP National Treasurer Ahmed Yayari Mohammed spoke to reporters after the meeting, stressing that the party’s ongoing efforts are aimed at strengthening internal cohesion and reestablishing its dominance ahead of the 2027 general elections. "Governor Fubara's leadership has been pivotal in stabilizing the PDP in Rivers State. Our focus now is on ensuring that the party remains united and prepared to reclaim power, not just in Rivers, but at the federal level as well, come May 2027," Mohammed declared.

In addition to endorsing Fubara's leadership, the NWC also expressed its full support for Sir Ude Okoye, whose position as the National Secretary of the PDP was recently reinstated by the Court of Appeal. The ruling, which cleared Okoye of any legal challenges to his role, has been a significant point of contention within the party. However, the NWC has now called for continued backing from party governors and key stakeholders, ensuring that Okoye’s leadership remains unchallenged.

"The PDP is on a clear path to recovery," Mohammed continued, adding that the party is committed to rebranding and expanding its influence across the nation. He emphasized that party unity, under Governor Fubara’s leadership, is crucial for the success of their long-term goals.

The meeting concluded with a renewed sense of purpose, with the NWC pledging its full support to Governor Fubara’s leadership and strategic vision for the party. As the 2027 elections approach, the PDP appears focused on reclaiming its position of strength, both within Rivers State and across the country, in what is shaping up to be a defining period for the party.
