President Tinubu to Hold Bilateral Discussions with Xi Jinping

President Bola Tinubu is due in Beijing, China, today Thursday, August 29, 2024, on a high-level diplomatic mission.


The Presidency stated on Tuesday that the Tinubu agenda includes visits to prominent Chinese companies such as Huawei Technologies and the China Railway and Construction Corporation to accelerate the completion of the Ibadan-Abuja segment of the Lagos-Kano rail project.



According to statements, the engagement purpose is to accelerate the completion of the Ibadan to Abuja segment of the Lagos to Kano high-speed rail line, among other significant projects.


Special Adviser on Media and Publicity,  Ajuri Ngelale in a statement, clarified that President Tinubu will make a brief stopover in the United Arab Emirates.


The statement partly read: “President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja for Beijing, China, on Thursday, 29th August, for an official visit.

“President Tinubu will have a brief layover in the United Arab Emirates.

“In China, the President will meet with President Xi Jinping and hold meetings with Chinese business leaders on the sidelines of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

“President Tinubu will be accompanied by senior government officials on the trip.”


It was also learnt that Tinubu will also during the trip attend the 2024 forum on China–Africa cooperation (FOCAC) scheduled to hold between September 4 and 6.



The forum which holds every three years, serves as an official platform for cooperation between China and African countries with the aim of strengthening the economic and political ties.


The trip is seen as a strategic move to strengthen bilateral relations between the two nations while pursuing key economic opportunities.


Relatedly, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity,  Ajuri Ngelale on Tuesday, narrated the importance of the upcoming visit adding that the president will also meet with CEOs of 10 top Chinese corporations, which manage over $3 trillion in assets across sectors such as ICT, oil and gas, aluminum production, seaport development, finance, and satellite technology.


He stated “His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will depart for the People’s Republic of China, most specifically, Beijing, from the nation’s capital within the first week of September, to engage in a series of meetings and activities with immediate and future benefit to the Nigerian economy and the Nigerian people.
