Rihanna is embracing life as a mother alongside her partner, A$AP Rocky, as they raise their two sons, RZA and Riot. While the singer and entrepreneur cherishes motherhood, she recently revealed that sometimes, her children seem to favor their father over her.
In an interview with yesterday, the 37-year-old candidly shared that her boys often gravitate toward A$AP Rocky, leaving her feeling slightly envious. “I get annoyed because my sons sometimes seem to adore him more than they adore me,” she admitted. “And I’m just thinking, ‘Do you realize who carried you? Who brought you into this world?’ But even though it frustrates me, it’s also beautiful to watch.”
During the conversation, the “Love on the Brain” singer also gave insight into the personalities of her two young children, painting a vivid picture of their unique traits.
Rihanna described her eldest, two-year-old RZA, as an incredibly empathetic child. “He has this magical energy about him. He loves music, melodies, and books. He’s also obsessed with water, whether it’s bath time, swimming, the pool, or the beach,” she shared.
As for her younger son, 18-month-old Riot, Rihanna described him as a lively and entertaining presence in their home. “He’s just hilarious,” she said. “The moment he wakes up, he starts squealing and screaming, not because he’s upset, but because he just wants to sing. And I’m like, ‘Okay, here we go!’ He’s basically my morning alarm clock. He’s determined, and he’s not taking ‘no’ from anyone. I have no idea where he gets it from!”
The Grammy-winning artist also opened up about how Riot got his name, revealing that music producer Pharrell Williams played a key role in the decision. “Pharrell suggested the name because he had come across something online and assumed we were having a girl. But Pharrell isn’t someone who just throws out a name without meaning, he dives deep into the energy, timing, and significance behind it,” Rihanna explained.
Adjusting to life as siblings took time for RZA, as Rihanna admitted that he initially struggled with the arrival of his younger brother. “Like most older siblings, he had to get used to sharing the attention. At first, Riot seemed to accept his role as the little brother, but now, he’s realized that he’s actually the one in charge,” she joked.
Despite the occasional sibling rivalry and moments when A$AP Rocky steals the spotlight, Rihanna is fully embracing the joys and challenges of parenthood. Her love for her family shines through, proving that no matter who gets the most attention, she’s proud to be a mother to her two boys.
