RIVERS LG POLL: IYC Tasks Rivers Youth To Shun Violence, Embrace Peace

The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Eastern Zone has appealed to the youths from the Ijaw extraction of Rivers State to be law-abiding while casting their votes during the Local Government elections in Rivers State scheduled for Saturday 5th October.

This appeal is contained in a statement signed by the Chairman, IYC Eastern Zone, Prince Datolu Sukubo on friday.

The newly elected Chairman of IYC Eastern Zone, Prince Datolu Sukubo in the statement advised Ijaw youths to resist every attempt by those he described as enemies of the state to be used to cause violence during Saturday's elections.

The statement also thanked Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his support for the IYC Election and also appreciated him for his calm disposition in the face of alleged provocation.

The Chairman of IYC Eastern Zone, Prince Datolu Sukubo however clarified that IYC remains steadfast in the actualization of political liberation of Ijaw Nation.

Also, the Governorship Candidate of Africa Action Congress AAC in Rivers State at the 2023 general elections, Dr Joseph Obele has commended Governor Siminialayi Fubara for providing a peaceful atmosphere for all political parties for the election tomorrow.

Dr Joseph Obele while speaking to our correspondent said that the Governor did not issue any Executive Order to restrict any political party from participating in the electoral process.

He also lauded all political parties for their peaceful conduct during the electioneering campaign.

Dr Joseph Obele noted that the 2024 local government election was the most peaceful and zero-threat election ever experienced in Rivers State.

“This local government election 2024 is the most peaceful and zero-threat election ever experienced in Rivers state. It is on record that all the political parties had equal opportunities as it concerns when and where to campaign. There were no restrictions of any nature against any political party and freedom granted to another Political party. Comparing this election season to the 2023 election, I think political Stakeholders in Rivers State need to commend the Executive Governor of Rivers State Sir Siminalayi Fubara for giving an equal level playing ground to all political parties and Candidates”

“The Governor has the powers to roll out different forms of Executive orders to deprive others and give a competitive edge to others, but he rather chooses to be fair and equitable to all the political parties and Candidates," he said.

The Governorship Candidate of Africa Action Congress (AAC) at the 2023 election Dr Joseph Obele further tasked the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission RSIEC to conduct a credible election that will be accepted by all.

He also implores all the Residents of Rivers State to take advantage of the two-day holidays declared by the State Governor and go out on Saturday to vote for candidates of their choice.
