The confirmation was disclosed in an official statement released on Saturday by Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser on information and strategy. According to the statement, the president has nominated Haruna Ginsau from Jigawa State as the chairman of the board of the North West Development Commission.
The appointment of Ginsau, an experienced leader, is seen as strategic to driving the commission’s mandate of transforming the North West.In addition to Ginsau, Abdullahi Ma’aji, a professor from Kano State, has been appointed as the managing director and CEO of the board. Ma’aji, a distinguished academic and administrator, is expected to lead the commission’s efforts in promoting sustainable development across the region.Onanuga emphasized that the nominees possess vast experience and expertise, which are critical for the commission’s objective of fostering economic growth, empowering communities, and addressing social challenges in the North West.
He further noted that the NWDC’s primary focus will be on "catalyzing significant growth, economic empowerment, and social development" to uplift the region. The NWDC is set to play a pivotal role in tackling the developmental deficits in the North West, a region that has faced challenges such as poverty, insecurity, banditry and underdevelopment. The commission will be tasked with implementing projects aimed at improving infrastructure, education, healthcare, and creating economic opportunities for the local populace.President Tinubu, through this move, has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring equitable development across all regions of the country.
His administration, according to the statement, is "steadfast" in supporting the NWDC in achieving its mission of transforming the North West into a hub of sustainable development and prosperity.
This follows the president’s earlier action in July, when he signed into law the bills establishing both the North West Development Commission NWDC, and the South East Development Commission SEDC.These commissions are part of the federal government’s broader strategy to address regional disparities and foster inclusive growth the thirty six states of the federation.
