Why S’East Shunned Nationwide Hardship Protests - Ohanaeze Youth Council

The Ohanaeze Youth Council, OYC, led by Igboayaka O Igboayaka says the Igbo did not participate in the 10-day nationwide anti-starvation protests because of the eternal conspiracy against them.

In a statement on Saturday, August 10, the OYC disagreed and urged all to disregard the claim by governors in the South East Zone that they convinced their people not to take in the protests.

The group expressed regrets that the governors and some leaders in the South

East are at present positioning themselves before President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take credit for the non-participation of the people of the zone.

The group asserted that as things stand at the moment, no political leader in the South East Zone could command a legion of ants talk more of their kits and kin.

The statement partly reads; "It's factual that no single political leader in South East can command a crowd of "legion of ants" in SouthEast.

"They're simply enemies of the people, that's why none of them can move freely in South East without legion of armed security agents.

"The guilty is always afraid. The enemies of the South East are verily afraid and they're within South East with unmerited titles, like His Excellency, Distinguished and Honourable".

The OYC blamed the political leaders for the decades-long marginalization of the zone in the economic and political spheres of the country.

According to it, "The new generation of Igbos are verily aware and extremely convinced that the 75% political and economic marginalization, the economic situation of South East in national politics are caused by South East Governors, National Assembly members, State Assembly members, national appointees and state appointees"

It further submitted that there is a huge gulf between the political leaders and the people, branding any political leader who claims credit for the non-participation of the Igbo in the protests as a liar.

The OYC added; "Let it be on record to His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu that no single political office holder in South East is instrumental in the non participation of Ndigbo in the ongoing nationwide protest.

"I want to assure and inform President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that the reason Ndigbo didn't participate in nationwide protest is because of sense of history and the conspiracy against Ndigbo, which we saw ahead of the protest. There's no sincerity of purpose in the protest, but a protest emanating from regional hypocrisy.

"Ndigbo shunned the protest because since 2021 after Owerri Prison break that was carried out to demonize Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and in conspiracy with the former President Muhammadu Buhari ruthless bloodthirsty Government that made South East a blood battle field.

"Ndigbo thought it wise that it's unnecessary to hit on the streets and roads because of mere increment in "beans and rice" "cassava and agbado", and it will open an opportunity for the criminal elements that was released from Owerri Prison break in 2021 by President Muhammadu Buhari to cause carnage in South East to join the protest and unleash arson and looting in the disguise of protesting."

The group described the Igbo aversion to the protest as the wisest decision of the people since the Nigeria/Biafra genocide of 1967 to 1970.

"The most wisest decision Ndigbo took since after the 1967-1970 genocide is rejecting and not participating in the ongoing nationwide #EndBadGovernance protest, aka #HunngerProtest. And such wise decision couldn't have come from unwise selfish South East Governors and elected political profiteers in South East. Ndigbo were possessed with a sense of history and guided by unraveling the conspiracy against Ndigbo as regards the protest", the OYC concluded.
