Former Governor of Kano State and prominent leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has made a bold commitment to diminishing the electoral influence of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state during the upcoming 2027 elections. Speaking to a group of former councillors and senior special advisers from the previous administration at his Kano residence on Wednesday, Kwankwaso laid out his vision for the future of the state’s political landscape.
Kwankwaso’s declaration came in the wake of his party, the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), securing notable success in the 2023 elections. Despite being a relatively new political force with a late start to their campaign, the NNPP managed to keep the opposition at bay, with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) only managing a paltry 15,000 votes in Kano. Kwankwaso hailed this as a testament to the commitment and efficiency of his team, who worked tirelessly to bolster the party’s presence and popularity across the state.
While reflecting on the NNPP’s achievement, Kwankwaso expressed confidence that his party could achieve even greater success in the future. He declared that the next goal would be to reduce the APC’s share of the vote in Kano to under 15,000 in the 2027 elections, describing this as an achievable target. The former governor pointed out that, with more time to prepare, the party would continue to build on its grassroots efforts, ensuring the NNPP’s dominance in the state for years to come.
Kwankwaso further emphasized the importance of dedication, grassroots mobilization, and a strategic approach to campaigning. He called on his supporters to stay committed to the cause, reiterating that the NNPP’s long-term success would rely on effective organization and tireless efforts to connect with the people at the local level. He also urged them to remain focused on delivering tangible results that would resonate with voters and strengthen the party’s position ahead of the 2027 elections.
This pledge to significantly reduce the APC’s votes reflects Kwankwaso’s ongoing ambition to reshape the political scene in Kano, a state historically dominated by the APC and its allies. With his unwavering focus on the party’s growth and a clear message of determination, Kwankwaso aims to position the NNPP as a formidable force in the state’s political future.
