Abia Concludes Plans to Train 2,000 Teachers

The Abia State Government has concluded plans to train 2000 master trainers for teachers in the state.


The Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu made this known while briefing journalists in Awka, on the outcome of this week’s executive council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti on Monday, September 2, 2024.


He stated that 200 teachers have gone through the training while the remaining 1,800 will also go through the process soon.


In his statement, he further said that the Abia State Basic Education Board has screened, interviewed, and shortlisted 40 teachers for training under the Abia State School Enhancement Team Programme.


He further disclosed that the state government has also commenced the posting of security personnel across public schools in the state, where he also hinted that, the initiative is aimed at safeguarding lives and property in the schools.


In his statement he said: "Posting security personnel is aimed at securing the lives and property of both the students, teachers, and the property of the schools involved,”


 "This is part of the wider agenda of the state government to reform our education system"


Okey also mentioned that the ongoing project is part of the ongoing reforms in the agenda of the state Government towards the educational system, while putting into consideration the transformative Educational experience for all students.


He said: “Also as part of the ongoing reform agenda in the educational system, the promise that the state government has made in the past has come to fulfilment with the posting of security personnel to our schools.


The commissioner also revealed that, under the Abia State School Enhancement Team programme, the board has screened 40 persons to ensure quality compliance with schools’ guidelines as established by the Ministry of Education in the state.


He declared that the state government would also commission the newly-upgraded eye centre, built in the state by the current Governor as one of its impactful projects, at annexe of Abia Specialist Hospital located at Amachara.


Before now, ASUBEB staff have been earmarked for promotion as a way towards motivating the staff for better and greater productivity.
