Abia Govt Endorses NoMAP's Off-grid Electrification Plan

The Abia State government has endorsed an off-grid electrification policy proposed by the Nigeria off-grid Market Acceleration Programme (NoMAP).

This approval was given during a workshop in Umuahia organized by NoMAP for various ministries, departments, and agencies. Attendees learned that NoMAP is a collaborative initiative spearheaded by the Shell Foundation and USAID, with additional support from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and other donor agencies.

Participants were also informed that the primary focus of NoPAM’s work revolves around policy and regulation. This includes a range of interventions such as providing funding to off-grid companies, engaging with stakeholders, and supporting capacity building initiatives. The emphasis on these areas aims to enhance the effectiveness and reach of NoPAM’s efforts in driving progress and development.

Jennifer Anya Lekwa, a Program Associate at NoPAM, emphasized their contribution to documenting policies and action plans for off-grid electricity. She noted how their support plays a crucial role in creating comprehensive frameworks that guide the development and implementation of off-grid solutions.

She highlighted that the workshop successfully reached a consensus among participants, many of whom underscored the policy's crucial significance to their work. The discussions confirmed a strong agreement on the policy's impact and necessity, with attendees acknowledging its pivotal role in advancing their objectives.
