Abia LG Elections: IPAC Calls For Peaceful Polls

The Inter party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Abia State has urged the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) to meet public expectations for a credible local government election on Saturday.

IPAC also called on all political parties to ensure a peaceful, violence-free polling process.

While briefing journalists in Umuahia, Abia State IPAC chairman, Hon. Uluocha Chimex, urged politicians to abandon the mindset of treating elections as a chance to incite violence and secure victory at any cost. He emphasized that the Abia local government election should be free from such harmful practices.

He additionally urged security agencies to refrain from actions that might intimidate voters, emphasizing the need for a fair and peaceful environment where citizens can freely participate in the election process without fear or pressure.

Uluocha, who also serves as the state chairman of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), praised the Peace Accord signed on Thursday by several political parties and the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, with local security chiefs present, as a commitment to uphold peace and order before, during, and after the election.

“We in IPAC want to see a violence-free election. Abia needs peace, and every political party under IPAC’s umbrella should ensure a peaceful election, as the electoral commission has promised a fair process,” he stated.

In a separate remark, IPAC in Abia State criticized the conduct of Representative Alex Ikwecheghi of the Aba North/Aba South constituency, calling it shameful.
