Abia PDP Elects Amah Abraham as State Chairman

The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has elected Elder Abraham Amah as its new state chairman.

Amah, formerly the party’s Vice Chairman and Acting Publicity Secretary in Abia, secured 1,264 votes, defeating his nearest competitor, Olugu Kalu, who received 395 votes.

Other candidates in Sunday’s party congress held in Umuahia, the state capital, included James Okpara, Godwin Okoro, Kingsley Imaga, Olugu Kalu Ogba, and Chief Ukwu Rocks Emma.

Following the election, Elder Amah expressed his gratitude to the party’s stakeholders and delegates for considering him worthy of their votes and entrusting him with the leadership of the party.

He pledged to actively engage and reconcile aggrieved party members.

He highlighted, “We will revive the ideas and vision of the founding fathers and work to bring back those who left the party, strengthening it further. This marks a new dawn for Abia People’s Democratic Party, PDP”.

The election’s Returning Officer, Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, praised the peaceful conduct of the delegates, noting that it contributed to the smooth running of the process.

He stated, “I congratulate the winners; today’s events show that we are ready to reclaim power from those we lent it to by 2027.”

Senator Austin Akobundu, representing Abia Central Senatorial District, also praised the delegates for their orderly conduct, noting that the Congress reflected the party’s values and commending the transparent process of the election.

He reminded everyone that only one candidate can emerge victorious for each position in an election.

He urged the winners to adopt an inclusive leadership approach, encouraging them to engage all party members and foster unity within the organization.

“The victory belongs to everyone,” he added.

Former State Information Commissioner Chief John Okiyi-Kalu encouraged the new state executive members to focus on a common goal and bringing back those who left the party.

Kalu stated, “The party’s future begins with the rise of these new leaders.”

He emphasized that, although some members left over grievances, the new leadership must vigorously pursue the mission of bringing them back.

He mentioned that reuniting and strengthening the PDP family should be a priority to ensure a unified and resilient party.
