Abia Police Investigates Alleged Beheading of Couple

The Abia State Police Command has begun an investigation into the alleged beheading of Mr. Jacob Udo and Mrs. Comfort Udo in the Isiala Autonomous Community of Bende Local Government Area.

In a statement on Friday, Maureen Chilaka, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident and announced that an investigation is underway to uncover those responsible for the heinous act.

She stated that investigation is ongoing in the incident, ”Yes, we received the report yesterday at the Bende Divisional Headquarters. The crime scene has been examined, evidence collected, and the victims' bodies have been taken to the mortuary. The investigation is ongoing”, she said.

The report stated that the casualties were reportedly executed on Tuesday night by anonymous perpetrators who cut apart their bodies after beheading them in their apartment.

In a strong statement, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker and member of the House of Representatives for the Bende federal constituency, condemned "the horrific and senseless killing."

Kalu, through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Levinus Nwabughiogu, expressed his outrage over the barbaric incident.

He condemned the horrific act and emphasized the need for swift justice for the victims. Kalu highlighted the importance of ensuring safety and security within the community, calling on law enforcement and government officials to take immediate action.

“This heinous act of violence is unacceptable and violates the fundamental human right to life”, the statement read in part.

The Deputy Speaker stated that "no cause or grievance can justify such a brutal, inhumane, and heinous act."

Hon. Kalu expressed his condolences to the victims' families and urged the state government and law enforcement agencies to carry out a comprehensive investigation to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure justice is served.

He urged the communities in the constituency to remain calm and exercise restraint, cautioning against potential reprisal attacks. He also emphasized the importance of unity and avoiding further violence, stressing that responding with aggression would only escalate the situation.

The lawmaker pledged that the authorities would take the necessary actions to locate and punish the individuals responsible for the crime.

Meanwhile, the couple originated from Itumbuzor, an agricultural community within the Bende Local Government Area, but they were living in Bende town.
