Akwa Ibom First Lady to Be Buried Nov 29

The family of the late First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor (Mrs.) Patience Umo Eno, has officially announced her burial arrangements, as the state prepares to bid farewell to a woman known for her deep compassion, faith, and service to the community.

Pastor Patience Umo Eno, who passed away on September 26, 2024, will be laid to rest on November 29, 2024. A funeral service will be held at her home town in Ikot Ekpene Udo, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, marking the culmination of a series of commemorative events designed to honor her legacy.

Her husband, Governor Umo Eno, along with other family members and state officials, collaborated closely to finalize the arrangements, aiming to celebrate the inspiring life and contributions of the late First Lady.

The Secretary to the State Government and Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Enobong Uwah, conveyed the official announcement on Friday, expressing the family's heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of support and prayers from across the nation. “We are deeply thankful for the overwhelming prayers, tributes, and comforting words during this profoundly difficult period,” Uwah remarked, underscoring the widespread affection and admiration for Pastor Patience Eno.

In a heartfelt tribute, Governor Umo Eno reflected on his wife’s dedication, describing her as “not only my partner but a pillar of strength for our family and the people of Akwa Ibom. Her compassion and devotion were unmatched, and she will be dearly missed.”

The series of commemorative activities in Pastor Patience’s memory begins with the opening of the Mourning House on November 20, 2024, followed by condolence visits until November 26.

A Night of Worship and Tributes will take place on November 22 at the International Christian Worship Centre in Uyo, where community members will gather to share memories, offer songs of worship, and pay tribute to her impactful life. Reflecting on her legacy, Dr. Frank Ekpenyong, SSA-ICT, noted, “Her Excellency was a beacon of hope to many, and this night of worship is a small testament to the light she brought to countless lives.”

Fondly known as Eka Iberedem Akwa Ibom, or “Mother and Strong Pillar of Akwa Ibom,” Pastor Patience was beloved for her humanitarian work and compassionate leadership.

She founded the Golden Initiative for All (GIFA), a foundation dedicated to aiding the poor and vulnerable, particularly through initiatives like providing shelter, food, and education.

Her feeding programme originally small in scale, grew to support hundreds of children daily, ensuring that no child in her care would go hungry.

Additionally, she invested in educational initiatives, sponsoring tuition fees and providing resources for underprivileged students to ensure they had the means to thrive.

The family welcomes condolence messages at [email protected] by November 11, 2024, and inquiries may be directed to Hon. Otobong Edemidiong at +234 806 930 3636.
