APC Tackles Kwankwaso on Palliatives Distribution Criticism

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has strongly disagreed with a former governor of the state, Rabi’u Kwankwaso, who accused the federal government of partisanship in the distribution of palliatives and the posting of the Director of the Department of State Service (DSS) in Kano.

On Monday, September 9, Mr. Kwankwaso shared a statement on his verified X handle expressing his disappointment with the federal government’s decision to give palliatives to Kano State’s opposition APC in contrast to other states in the federation.

“For the last week, I have been in Kano, and sadly, I noted with great disappointment the Federal Government distribution of rice palliative to 35 states all through their governors, except Kano State in the whole federation.

“Kano’s share was handed over to APC stalwarts to handle. This is a gross insult to our constitutional democracy and driving partisanship too far.

“I call on Mr President to immediately halt this naked derailment of democracy,” Mr Kwankwaso stated.

The former governor alleged that the federal government was politicizing security in the state by allegedly assigning and reassigning directors of the Department of State Service (DSS)

“I have also noted with great concern that in just two weeks, three different State Directors of the DSS were posted and reposted out of Kano, and we are still counting. Without a doubt, this is negatively affecting the security of Kano State,” Mr Kwankwaso said.

But in a swift response through a statement, Abdullahi Abbas, the APC chairman in the state, said the federal government was committed to reducing hardship in the country, but the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) administration in Kano was hindering the efforts.

Mr. Abbas claimed that President Bola Tinubu granted approval for multiple palliative measures for poor households and vulnerable individuals, but those tasked with distributing them in Kano were allegedly diverting resources.

The APC chairperson alleged that senior NNPP government officials were involved in the diversion.

The APC chairman called on Mr. Kwankwanso to tell his ‘anointed’ governor, Abba Yusuf, to investigate those incidents and ensure that the culprits are held responsible for the missing palliatives and are prosecuted.

He alleged that Mr. Kwankwaso was dishonest in his assertion that the distribution exercise was solely managed by the APC.

According to Mr. Abbas, the federal government’s new committee consisted of members from various political parties, including the NNPP, PDP and IPAC.

According to him, the committee developed detailed procedures for distributing the palliatives.

Mr. Abbas stated that the committee’s objective was to prevent diversion and ensure that the beneficiaries were truly needy members of the public.

The APC chairperson asserted that Mr. Tinubu did the posting and reposing of DSS directors to guarantee that only diligent heads of security agencies were posted to Kano.

According to the APC chairman, Kano remained relatively peaceful during Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s two-term administration, without any violent incidents.
