Nonso Sports Shop Partners Bayelsa SWAN

A Yenagoa-based sportswear and equipment outlet, Nonso Sports Shop is to donate branded jerseys to members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Bayelsa State Chapter.

The donation of the jerseys is coming on the heels an agreement entered into by the immediate past caretaker committee chairman, Loveday Herbert.

According to reports, Loveday Herbert initiated the discussion with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Nonso Sports Shop, Prince Chinonso Okpara at about the period he was appointed to head a three-man committee to conduct SWAN elections.

The outcome of the discussions did not immediately manifest but thankfully it has now yielded fruits with the CEO accepting to donate the branded jerseys to all registered members of SWAN in Bayelsa State.

The deal was finally sealed on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 when members of the state executive council of SWAN, including its chairman, Comrade Timinipre Ohia, Vice Chairman, Preye Yabrifa, Secretary, Patrick Osuagwu and Director General of Welfare, Tommy Amaegbe undertook a follow-up visit to the CEO in his office.

While speaking on behalf of SWAN, Chairman Comrade Timinipre Ohia lauded Mr Chinonso Okpara for his numerous contributions to the development of sports in Bayelsa state and beyond, noting that the association was aware of his philanthropic activities to various sporting association's events in the state.

Mrs Ohia solicited for partnership and support from the business outfit, especially with the donation of branded jerseys to each of its members.

The hard-working chairman also requested for the donation of two balls for the Association's forthcoming SWAN Week.

Responding, the Chief Executive Officer of Nonso Sports Shop, Prince Chinonso Okara, who expressed excitement at the partnership, promised to present a branded jersey to every registered member of the association, alongside two balls for the Association to execute its SWAN week programme.

While assuring of his readiness to support SWAN in its programmes, Okpara urged the body to keep up the good work of writing and promoting sporting activities in the state.

Reacting to the development, the immediate past Vice Chairman of SWAN in BBayelsa State, Pereoloto Amgbaare said the partnership initiative is a good one because no man is an island unto himself. People have to work together to maximise results. Speaking on the donation of the brandede jerseys, Amgbare said 'it will give both parties that special sense of belonging in the sporting industry''.
