Assembly Lauds Imo Govt For Immortalizing Iwuanyanwu

The Imo State House of Assembly has lauded the Executive Arm for implementing its resolution of Immortalizing Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, President General Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide by renaming the Imo International Conference Centre IICC Owerri after the late industrialist.

The commendation followed a motion moved by the member representing Mbaitoli Constituency, Hon Innocent Ikpamezie at plenary on Wednesday November 6, 2024.

Moving the motion, Hon Ikpamezie expressed his profound gratitude to the state governor Senator Hope Uzodimma for also giving the elder statesman a befitting burial.

He particularly commended the state governor for ensuring the safety and security of dignitaries and others who attended the burial ceremony on Friday November 1, 2024 at Atta Community in Ikeduru Local Government Area of the state.

The lawmaker noted the uniqueness of the funeral ceremony saying that the respect accorded the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has disabused the minds of those who hitherto had the impression that the Igbos do not have respect for their elders.

Hon Ikpamezie recalled that the House had on September 10, 2024 passed a resolution urging the governor to immortalize Chief Iwuanyanwu by renaming the IICC after him.

He argued that the resolution was informed by the contributions of the late industrialist, publisher, politician and philanthropist to the state, South East, Nigeria and humanity.

The member representing Ngor/Okpala Constituency Hon Obinna Egu seconded the motion which was co-sponsored by nine other lawmakers.

Twelve members spoke in support of the motion namely Hon Ikenna Ihezuo (Orlu); Hon Emeka Ozurumba, Hon James Esile (Onulmo); Hon Benneth Ozioma(Njaba); Hon Bernard Ozoemelam(Ehime Mbano); Hon Ugochukwu Amuchie(Aboh Mbaise); and Hon Kanayo Onyemaechi(Owerri West).

Others were Hon Gilbert Nwosu(Oguta); Hon Uche Agabige(Orsu); Hon Obinna Egu (Ngor/Okpala) and Hon Chisom Ojukwu(Nkwerre).

They commended the state governor for having respect for the House by implementing its resolution in the case of Chief Iwuanyanwu.

At this juncture, the Speaker Hon Chike Olemgbe put the motion to vote and the ayes had it.

He thereafter directed the Clerk Barr Chinelo Emeghara to communicate the resolution of the House to the state governor.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was represented at the funeral ceremony by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume while the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio was represented by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe.
