The Enugu State Police Command has formally announced the arraignment and remand of a 30-year-old suspect, Tsehemba Joshua, in connection with the alleged armed robbery and murder of Yusuf Ibrahim, a 19-year-old scrap scavenger.
The command disclosed these details in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, and shared on the command’s official X (formerly Twitter) account.
The statement was titled, “Enugu Police Arrest, Arraign, and Remand Male Suspect for Conspiracy, Armed Robbery, and Murder of Scrap Scavenger.”
According to the police report, Joshua is alleged to have conspired with two accomplices, who are still at large, in a plot that led to Ibrahim’s tragic death.
The statement detailed that Joshua, after appearing in court, has been remanded at the Enugu Correctional Custodial Centre as the investigation and legal proceedings continue.
The investigation began after officers from the Udenu Police Division responded to a community alert regarding a suspicious discovery at Ojo River, located in the Ogbodu-Aba area of Obollo Community, Udenu Local Government Area.
Local residents had reported the presence of a shallow grave in a nearby bush, prompting the police to initiate an inquiry. "The suspect was arrested by operatives from the Udenu Police Division of the Command, following a community alert regarding a shallow grave discovered in a bush at Ojo River in Ogbodu-Aba, Obollo Community, Udenu LGA,” the police statement read.
Following his apprehension, Joshua reportedly confessed to his involvement in the crime.
Police allege that he lured Ibrahim under the guise of a scrap motor vehicle sale, tricking the victim into a vulnerable position.
Joshua is accused of robbing Ibrahim of N100,000 before strangling him and subsequently burying his body in a shallow grave on October 2, 2024.
The Campus Monitoring/Anti-Cultism Section of the State CID Enugu conducted a thorough investigation, leading to Joshua’s formal arraignment. He is now in custody, awaiting further court proceedings.
This incident follows other recent violent crimes in Enugu State. In August, the command detained a 30-year-old man accused of killing his neighbor's four-year-old daughter while she slept.
Additionally, in September, the Enugu State Police Command reported an ongoing investigation into the murder of Stephen Aniago, Chairman of the Ogbete Main Market Traders Association.
These cases reflect a concerted effort by Enugu law enforcement to address rising violence and bring suspects to justice.
