Former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar has congratulated President Donald Trump on his re-election in the United States.
In a statement released on Wednesday via X (formerly known as twitter), Atiku commended the result as a reflection of the power of democracy.
He highlighted his admiration for the resilience of the democratic process in the US and stressed the significance of credible elections globally.
According to Atiku: “I closely followed the presidential election in the United States of America, watching with bated breath as the nation decided its future. It is with even greater satisfaction that I now reflect on the result, which heralds a resounding victory for President Donald Trump and the Republican Party.”
While describing Trump’s victory as an enduring testament to the resilience and vitality of the democratic process, Atiku however, underscored how Trump’s political journey exemplifies courage in the face of adversity.
He also stated: “This triumph, without a doubt, will stand as an enduring testament to the resilience and vitality of the democratic process — a timeless reminder that democracy, with all its trials and tribulations, remains a force for good in the world.”
“The narrative of President Trump’s political journey, marked by his struggles and triumphs, shall serve as an inspiring parable of courage in the face of adversity — a lesson in the art of rising after every fall and, ultimately, emerging victorious.”
Furthermore, Atiku remarked that Trump’s success is a powerful lesson in resilience, illustrating how one can rise after each setback and eventually achieve victory.
However, Atiku expressed optimism that Trump’s administration would promote free and fair elections across the globe, pointing out the important lessons this could offer for Nigeria.
“The lesson for us in Nigeria is the integrity of the process that ensures a credible outcome. It is the expectation of every Nigerian that the Trump administration will stand resolute in ensuring free and fair elections in Nigeria and other parts of the world.”
“I also extend my warm congratulations to the people of the United States, whose unwavering faith in the power of democracy and the sanctity of the ballot has once again shown the world the true might of the people’s voice,” the 2023 PDP presidential candidate added.
Recall Niger Delta Connect reported, Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other global leaders extended congratulations to Donald Trump on his victory in the fiercely contested 2024 U.S. presidential election. Although the final tally was not yet officially called, Trump’s lead in key battleground states signaled an undeniable edge, leading to early accolades from leaders worldwide.
