The Technical Adviser of Bayelsa Queens FC, Mr Whyte Ogbonda, has assured the supporters of the team and indeed the people of the state that their team will return to the continent at the end of the season.
Bayelsa Queens, fondly called the Prosperity Girls, who enjoyed an outstanding first stanza of the Nigeria Women's Football League (NWFL) season, are currently occupying second position on the log with 17 points.
The darling team of Rivers State, Rivers Angels also on 17 points, but with superior goals aggregate, lead the pack of the title contenders.
Whyte said ending the first round of the NWFL without a loss was a sign of what the former CAF WAFU-B Champions needed, going into the second stanza of the league.
Whyte, who took over at the start of the season, said that the players have gradually adapted to his programme.
"The fact that we did not lose any match in the first round of the league is a good omen; a sign of good things to come. It is indicative of what the girls need, going forward. It will boost the morale and confidence of the girls.
“We have worked very hard. We have gradually gotten our rhythm as the girls have adapted to my programme and I believe with time, we will get the performance that our hard work deserves.
“We aim to return to the continent, which is where Bayelsa Queens belongs,” Coach Whyte Ogbonda said.
Reacting to the coach's dream of returning to the continent, a Bayelsa Queens supporter, James Demeyeibo said "Whyte Ogbonda is a good coach with a solid pedigree. I believe in him and believe him if he says the club will go continental next season.
"The Senator Douye Diri-led government has done everything for the team. I believe funds have been provided by government and the players are motivated. All that is left is for us supporters to rally round the team by giving them our unalloyed support".
With the determination, zeal and hunger for victory that the girls display whenever they are playing, the dream of going continental is achievable.
Bayelsa Queens last won a major trophy in 2022 when they lifted the NWFL Super Six trophy. The Prosperity Girls clinched the WAFU Zone B qualifying ticket at Cote d' Ivoire before clinching a "golden" bronze medal at the CAF Women's Champions League hosted by Morocco.
Bayelsa Queens will return to action when hostilities resume for the second round of the NWFL on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa.
