Computer-Based WASSCE Starts Friday Says -WAEC

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that the Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates, 2024 – Second Series, will commence on Friday, October 25, 2024, and conclude on Friday, December 20, 2024.


In a statement issued on Tuesday, WAEC disclosed that the examination will be conducted using a hybrid model. The objective or multiple-choice questions will be presented on-screen, and candidates will input their responses directly on-screen.


For essay and practical questions, while the questions will also be displayed on-screen, candidates will be required to provide their answers in the provided answer booklets. Additionally, WAEC has offered an option for candidates who prefer to take the entire examination using the traditional paper-and-pen format.


The Council also announced that the registration deadline for the examination has been extended to Tuesday, October 29, 2024. Furthermore, the “Walk-in-Candidate” option will be available, allowing candidates to register up to 24 hours before a scheduled exam.


The Statement added that the final examination timetable is now available for download on the WAEC Nigeria website. WAEC encouraged all candidates, both intending and registered, to utilize the various learning resources provided by the Council, such as the WAEC e-Study platform, past question booklets, and the WAECKonnect platform for candidate interaction.


WAEC concluded the statement by wishing all candidates success in the examination, reiterating its commitment to leveraging technology to enhance the accessibility of its services.


It said, “The examination will adopt the hybrid mode of delivering the examination, which implies that, the objective or multiple-choice questions would be rendered on-screen and candidates would be required to give their responses on the screen, while the essay and practical questions will be rendered on-screen, likewise, but candidates would have to give their responses using the answer booklets provided.

Meanwhile, the examination diet has provided an option for candidates who may wish to use Paper and Pen mode, for the whole examination papers.


“On this note, the Council wishes to inform all intending candidates that the registration period has been extended to Tuesday, October 29, 2024.”


It also revealed that “Similarly, the “Walk-in-Candidate” opportunity (for candidates who register 24 hours before the particular paper of their choice is due to be taken) will be open at the end of the registration. The final timetable for the examination is available for download on the WAEC Nigeria website.”


In addition, WAEC noted that all intending, as well as registered, candidates should take advantage of the numerous learning resources provided by the Council.

These include signing up on the WAEC e-Study platform purchasing the WAEC Past Questions and Answers books, and joining other candidates to interact, on the WAECKonnect platform.
