Court Adjourns Falana, Falz Defamation Suit Against VDM

VeryDarkMan (VDM) recently appeared in court dressed in Edo attire, greeted by cheering supporters, as he faced a defamation lawsuit filed by human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) and his son, rapper and activist Falz.

The case, which stems from a video posted by VDM on September 24, 2024, contains allegations of corruption and bias against the Falanas. Following the video’s release, an Ikeja High Court ordered VDM to remove it on October 14 and mandated that an originating summons be served through his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju.

In court on November 14, counsel for the Falanas, Muiz Banire (SAN), notified the judge that the case documents had been filed and served; however, the originating process was missing from the court’s records. VDM's lawyer, Marvin Omorogbe, argued that the writ of summons was invalid due to procedural errors, notably that it shared the same suit number as an earlier preemptive case.

The judge, Justice Matthias Dawodu, ultimately adjourned the case to January 23, 2025, allowing time for the procedural issues to be corrected before proceeding with the defamation claims.
