Enyimba FM, Legend FM, Rose FM in Aba Razed by Fire

A major fire engulfed major parts of Enyimba FM, Legend FM, and Rose FM in Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State on Saturday night.

The fire severely damaged the three-in-one radio complex housing Enyimba 94.3 FM, Legend 98.3 FM, and Rose 101.9 FM, but no lives were lost. Our correspondent confirmed the extent of the damage to the stations, which are now temporarily closed for assessment and repairs.

Eyewitnesses stated that the fire broke out at night on Saturday and quickly spread due to flammable materials in the studios. While the exact cause is still unknown, early reports point to a possible electrical fault.

Emergency services responded promptly, but the blaze had already caused extensive damage, forcing the stations off-air temporarily and sparking concerns about the future of these cherished community outlets.

The management of the stations expressed deep regret over the incident and heartfelt appreciation for the community’s quick response, which helped control the flames.

In their statement, they wrote, “We regret to inform you that our three radio stations - Enyimba 94.3 FM, Legend 98.3 FM, and Rose 101.9 FM, were targeted in a devastating fire incident yesterday on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at approximately 9:30pm.

“We are eternally grateful for the swift response and assistance from our community, which helped bring the fire under control. Most importantly, we are relieved to report that all staff members are safe and unharmed.

As a precaution, the management announced a temporary shutdown of operations across all three stations to assess the damage and implement necessary safety measures.

They stated, “As a way of exercising caution, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily shut down operations across all three stations. This will enable us to assess the damage, and carry out precautionary measures in order to emerge stronger and better.

“We will keep you updated on our progress and look forward to returning to the airwaves soon”

The people of Aba are saddened by this blow to their media landscape, yet support from listeners and stakeholders remains strong. Many are hopeful for the swift return of Enyimba 94.3FM, Legend 98.3FM, and Rose 101.9FM, which have been vital sources of news, music, and culture in their area.
