Renowned Nollywood actress and film producer, Funke Akindele, has candidly shared her painful experience with her first marriage, describing how it ended in a way that left her feeling utterly devastated.
In an interview late yesterday, which was later posted on Instagram, Funke opened up about the emotional toll of her failed marriage and advised young people to be cautious about rushing into relationships. She emphasized that just as one can rush into marriage, they may also rush out if they are not careful.
Reflecting on her own journey, the actress admitted that desperation played a significant role in her decision to marry. She had been eager to settle down and start a family, which led her to make a choice that ultimately did not work out. Her words serve as a cautionary tale for others who may be feeling pressured by societal expectations or personal desires to get married quickly.
One of the most heartbreaking aspects of her experience was how she discovered her marriage had ended. Funke recounted that a friend had called her and urged her to check the internet. To her shock, she saw the news of her failed marriage spreading across social media. Seeing her private struggles become a public spectacle made the situation even more painful.
“The only reason why I am sharing this with you, is to encourage the young ladies that are pressured or worried to get married, you want to also have a big party, just like other friends of yours, have a big wedding; Calm Down,” Akindele said.
“Please take your time, because if you rush in, you’ll rush out,” Akindele advised.
“Lesson learnt, I am not trying to drag anybody. For me, I just wanted to get married, have children, do things right, but, it didn’t work at last, which was very hurtful but God bless everybody. My marriage ended in a very bad way, it was devastating.
I was actually filming and a friend called me to check social media, and I saw on social media that my marriage had ended, I wanted to die.”
Funke Akindele’s story highlights the importance of making thoughtful and well-informed decisions when it comes to marriage. She urged young people to prioritize compatibility, patience, and self-awareness before taking such a significant step in life.
Her openness about her struggles has resonated with many, as it sheds light on the emotional and psychological challenges that can come with a failed marriage. By sharing her experience, Funke hopes to encourage others to be more cautious and intentional in their relationships.
