Abia state governor, Alex Otti, has unveiled a sweeping education reform agenda aimed at revolutionising the state's education sector and positioning it as a model for excellence in Nigeria.
During an unscheduled visit to the Master-Teachers Training Programme, a flagship initiative of his administration's Abia First Education Transformation Programme, Otti outlined his vision for creating a functional education system that will equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to compete favourably with their peers globally.
The governor's education reform agenda is built around several key pillars, including teacher training, curriculum development, infrastructure upgrade, and student support.
The Master-Teachers Training Programme is a critical component of this agenda, aimed at upgrading teachers' skills to meet the demands of a rapidly changing world.
The programme will focus on emerging technologies like robotics, artificial intelligence, and cyber security, as well as soft skills like critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration.
Otti emphasised the importance of education in unlocking Abia's potential, stating that it is the key to driving economic growth, reducing poverty, and improving living standards.

The governor announced plans to increase the education budget, allocating 20% of the 2024 budget to education.
He acknowledged that this is just the first step, stating that his administration will continue to invest in education to achieve its vision of creating a world-class education system.
Otti also announced plans to establish new schools, upgrade existing infrastructure, and provide digital resources to students and teachers.
In addition to the Master-Teachers Training Programme, Otti's administration has launched several other initiatives aimed at supporting students and teachers.
