Group In Plateau Demands Accountability from Imo Lawmaker

The Plateau Political Movement (PPM) has called on the people of Ideato Federal Constituency in Imo State to hold their representative, Ikenga Ugochinyere, accountable for making what they describe as “unfounded and reckless” claims against Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State.

The accusation comes in response to statements made by Ugochinyere during a recent live press conference, where he alleged that Mutfwang, along with other members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was part of a conspiracy against the party’s interests.

Kenazi Mani, the National Coordinator of the PPM, expressed his dismay over Ugochinyere’s comments, which he described as baseless and damaging to the unity of the PDP.

In the statement issued on Sunday, Mani emphasized that the lawmaker’s allegations lacked credible evidence and served only to sow discord within the party.

“It is deeply troubling that Ugochinyere, who only recently joined the PDP from the Action Peoples Party (APP), is now making such reckless claims,” Mani stated, noting that the remarks were not only misleading but also detrimental to the party’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its presence in Plateau and the North-Central region.

Mani questioned Ugochinyere’s motives, suggesting that the lawmaker’s actions appeared to be an attempt to destabilize the PDP from within, especially at a time when Governor Mutfwang is focused on unifying the party and delivering good governance in Plateau State.

“Instead of contributing to the growth and unity of the PDP, Ugochinyere seems intent on causing unnecessary friction,” Mani continued. “His statements are an unfortunate distraction from the real issues facing his constituents and the party as a whole”.

The PPM also pointed out the irony in Ugochinyere’s criticisms, given that Governor Mutfwang is actively working to build the PDP’s strength in the North-Central region. By contrast, the statement suggested that Ugochinyere’s accusations only served to weaken the party and hinder its progress.

“At a time when Governor Mutfwang is striving to advance the PDP in the region, Ugochinyere’s behavior is a disservice to the party and the people of Ideato,” said Mani. “Rather than focusing on the real issues of governance and development in his constituency, he is indulging in political grandstanding”.

The PPM urged the people of Ideato Federal Constituency to hold their representative to account, warning that his actions could tarnish the reputation of their constituency and distract from the urgent political and developmental concerns they face.

“The people of Ideato are known for their integrity and political dignity,they should not allow their representative to engage in baseless accusations that only serve to divide the party and distract from the important work that needs to be done.”

Mani concluded his statement by calling on Ugochinyere to redirect his focus on the pressing issues within his constituency and to support efforts to promote unity and progress within the PDP.

He further urged the lawmaker to stop spreading division and instead work toward fostering a stronger and more cohesive party that could better serve the people of Nigeria.

The statement from the PPM comes amid growing tensions within the PDP, as internal disputes continue to surface, especially as the party faces a shifting political landscape.

The PPM’s call for accountability highlights the deep divisions that exist within the opposition party, even as members attempt to navigate the challenges of governance and party cohesion in the face of political uncertainty.

As the holiday season approaches, the focus of the Plateau Political Movement remains on fostering political integrity and unity, while ensuring that leaders like Ikenga Ugochinyere prioritize the needs and concerns of their constituents over personal political agendas.
