Group Makes Case For Imo's Best Teacher

A group known as Concerned Imo Students has called on the Imo State Government to reward Mrs. Kalu Emmanuella Ngozi for emerging the Imo State champion in the 2024 Maltina Teacher of The Year competition.

The spokesperson of the group, Comrade Johnson Okorie Chukwu made the call on Wednesday October 23, 2024 in Owerri Imo State capital shortly after a meeting of the group.

Mr. Okorie Chukwu, a 300-Level student in the Development of Mass Communication of Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri said it would be a morale booster not only to Mrs. Kalu but also to other teachers once she is honoured by the state government.

He argued that Mrs. Kalu who teaches at Umuonyeali Secondary School Mbieri deserves a reward from the state government for doing the state proud in the competition.

Hear Okorie Chukwu; "It is the tradition that once a citizen brings honour to the state, the state government not only accords him a grand reception but also extends a hand of fellowship to the citizen

"We are therefore urging our dear amiable governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma to honour Mrs. Kalu for doing the state proud at the competition.

"I could remember that the state government under Owelle Rochas Okorocha honoured Miracle, an indigene of Owerri North Local Government Area of the state for winning the Big Brother Naija(BBN) in 2018. He was given N2million cash and a parcel of land to establish an aviation training school. Mrs Kalu's feat is even in a more noble competition. Like the Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund said teachers' reward should start from the earth. Our governor should make it happen".

Mrs. Kalu, a mother of five emerged the Imo State champion at the 2024 Maltina Teacher of The Year competition with her entry entitled"Catering Craft ".

The competition was organized by Nigerian Breweries PLC in conjunction with the Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund.

Recall that the overall winner of the competition smiled home with N10million cash, one year all-expenses-paid study overseas and a capacity building fund at his school at home.

The first and second runners-up went home with N3million and N2.5million respectively while the state champions, 36 in all like Mrs. Kalu were given N1million apiece.
