Gunmen Kill Imo Lawmaker 's Son In United States

Armed men have shot and killed Mitchell Duru, the son of the two-time member representing Ideato South Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon Johnson Duru (alias Pajay).

The unfortunate incident is said to have happened in the United States of America.

The Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Chike Olemgbe at plenary on Friday, October 18, 2024, declared a one-minute silence for the repose of the soul of the deceased and the souls of the faithful departed..

Our correspondent gathered that the deceased was killed during a shoot-out between two rival gangs.

He was said to be passing by when he was caught by the volley of bullets from the noozles of the guns of the rival gangs.

Recall that in July 2021, the Director of International Labour Organization (ILO), Cathy Feingold, lost her husband, Jeremy White during a crossfire between two rival gangs in New York City.

She and her husband were strolling home with two friends from a fast food restaurant when the tragedy occurred.

Meanwhile, the news of Duru's son's death has cast a cloud of double grief in his country home in Dimagu Autonomous Community in Isiekenesi Ancient Kingdom of Ideato South Local Government Area of Imo State.

The lawmaker's elder brother, Retired Major-General Richard Duru was kidnapped in September 2023 and his whereabouts have remained unknown since the incident took place.

Family sources said a fifty thousand dollars ransom was paid to his kidnappers.

Kinsmen and colleagues of the lawmaker prayed God to grant him the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss of his son at such a tender age.

They also pleaded with the kidnappers to either release the lawmaker’s abducted brother or brief the family on the condition of his health.

They demanded to know whether Major-General Duru(retd) is still alive or have died at the hands of the kidnappers.

If he died at their hands, the kinsmen and colleagues requested the kidnappers to show the family his grave so his corpse could be exhumed for proper burial.

In Igbo tradition, a son or a man of such high standing is never buried outside his compound no matter wherever he gave up the ghost.
